5.4-magnitude earthquake hits central Indonesia

Date:

A 5.4-magnitude earthquake struck Central Sulawesi province in central Indonesia on Friday morning, the country’s Meteorological, Climatological and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) said.

The agency reported the earthquake rocked off at 00:36 a.m. Jakarta time on Friday (1736 GMT on Thursday).

The epicenter was located 9 km southwest of Tojo Una-Una regency with a depth of 10 km under-earth, It said.

The intensity of the quake was felt the strongest at III to IV MMI (Modified Mercalli Intensity) in the regencies of Tojo Una-Una and Poso, it added.

No tsunami warning was issued as the tremors would not trigger giant waves.
