Bangladesh’s National Parliament Jatiya Sangsad will complete its 50 years on April 7.
After the country’s independence, the journey of Bangladesh National Parliament started on April 7, 1973 under the leadership of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The Father of the Nation was the Leader of the First Parliament.
The first session of the Jatiya Sangsad began at the then Jatiya Sangsad Bhavan at Tejgaon, Dhaka. Accordingly, the Bangladesh National Parliament is completing half a century on April 7.
On March 7, 1973 general elections were held in 300 seats of the first national parliament of Bangladesh. The number of seats reserved for women in the first National Assembly was 15. That is, the number of members in the first National Parliament was 315.
The first session of the Bangladesh National Parliament began on April 7, 1973 at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhavan at Tejgaon.
Muhammadullah was elected the Speaker of the first National Parliament and Baitullah was elected the Deputy Speaker. Later, when Muhammadullah was elected President, Abdul Malek Ukil was elected Speaker.
President Md. Abdul Hamid convened a special session on the occasion of the Golden Jubilee of the Parliament. On Thursday (April 6) at 11 am, a special session will be held under the chairmanship of Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Choudhury.
The special session will be the 22nd session of the current 11th Parliament and the second session of the current year.
Parliament Secretariat sources said the President Abdul Hamid will address the special session on April 7. In the special session, various historical achievements from the journey of the Bangladesh National Parliament to the present will be highlighted.
Historical speeches of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman will be aired. Members of Parliament will discuss the Golden Jubilee of Parliament in a special session.
It is known that some foreign guests were invited on the occasion of the Golden Jubilee of Bangladesh National Parliament. But according to the changed decision, none of the foreign guests are coming.
The National Parliament of Bangladesh is one of the most beautiful legislative buildings in the world. Jatiya Sangsad Bhavan area is 215 acres located in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar of capital Dhaka.
This spectacular building was designed by famous American architect Louis I Kahn.
The construction of the 9th floor building started in 1961. This building was inaugurated on January 28, 1982 after going through many ups and downs of history.
