Agartala, 7th July 2025: Expressing serious concern over the alleged collapse of law and order in Tripura, Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) President Asish Kumar Saha on Monday met Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag Dhankar and demanded immediate corrective measures. He warned that the Congress would launch a massive statewide movement if the police failed to act decisively.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Saha, a former MLA, alleged that opposition leaders and party workers are under constant attack, and accused the ruling BJP of sheltering the miscreants involved in such incidents.
“Political violence has become a daily affair. Party offices are being vandalized, motorbikes destroyed, and meetings disrupted—often in broad daylight and in the presence of police personnel who remain passive. The situation clearly reflects a breakdown of law and order,” Saha said.
He further alleged that law enforcement agencies have failed to act in most cases, effectively functioning as “silent spectators.” According to Saha, this inaction is fuelling more violence, while public confidence in the government continues to erode.
Highlighting a recent incident in Surma under Dhalai District, the PCC chief said a local resident, Asish Das, was murdered in what he claimed was a premeditated attack. He alleged that some local leaders of the ruling party were reportedly involved, as per the victim’s family.
“We have demanded the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by an IPS officer to probe the murder and ensure justice. If the administration fails to act, the Congress will be left with no option but to hit the streets,” Saha said.The Congress delegation submitted a detailed memorandum to the DGP outlining their demands and grievances related to political violence and the overall law and order situation in the state.
