Agartala, 8th July 2025:   Tripura’s Director General of Police (DGP), Anurag Dhankar, on Tuesday said the overall law and order situation in the state appears to be “good,” citing a drop in crime rates and a notable decline in road accident fatalities.

Speaking to the media after a review meeting with Khowai district police officials, the DGP informed that the state has witnessed an 8-10% decrease in crime this year as compared to the same period in 2024. “There has also been a significant reduction in road accident fatalities — from 126 deaths till June last year to 88 deaths in the same period this year,” Dhankar said.

Highlighting another area of progress, the DGP said law enforcement agencies have intensified their crackdown on narcotics. “Seizures of contraband items have increased by approximately 10%, with a total value of ₹20.20 crore reported till June this year, compared to ₹18 crore in the corresponding period last year,” he added.

“The figures show that the law and order situation appears good, with continuous efforts being made by the police to further improve it,” Dhankar remarked.
