Sabroom–Baishnabpur road turns perilous amid pipe-laying negligence

Agartala, 11th July 2025:   The Sabroom–Baishnabpur road has transformed into a hazardous stretch raising serious safety concerns due to haphazard execution of pipeline installation works by a contractor engaged by the DWS department.

Over the past few months, pipelines have been laid along various roads in Sabroom for water supply enhancement. However, the implementing agency is alleged to have merely dug trenches beside the roads, inserted pipes, and loosely filled them with soil leaving the surface unstable. With the onset of monsoon, this negligence has led to frequent incidents of vehicle wheels getting trapped in the soft ground, especially while yielding space to oncoming traffic.

A glaring example unfolded on Friday around noon, when a DI vehicle carrying rationed rice from Sabroom’s warehouse to a local shop in Ludhua got stuck in a drain where pipes had been laid. Moments later, an electronic auto also sank into the same poorly covered trench. While bystanders managed to lift the auto manually, the DI vehicle had to be pulled out using another vehicle.

Eyewitnesses fear that such lapses could trigger a major accident if not addressed immediately. Questions are mounting over the DWS department’s oversight, as locals allege the contractor’s work fails to meet basic quality standards under the department’s supervision.

“This is not just poor planning—it’s a death trap in disguise,” remarked a concerned resident.
