Agartala, 17th June 2025:   Following the death of an infant allegedly due to medical negligence, Kailashahar’s RGM subdivisional hospital has come under public scrutiny. In response, senior obstetrician and gynecologist Dr. Chiranjib Deb held a press conference today firmly rejecting accusations of wrongdoing and suggesting a deliberate attempt to malign the hospital’s reputation.

“This allegation is completely baseless and motivated,” Dr. Deb declared, addressing the claims made by grieving parents Bulti Debnath and Mithun Biswas. Their newborn son reportedly passed away on July 13, after being transferred from RGM Hospital to a private facility.

Providing a timeline of events, Dr. Deb said, “Bulti was admitted with labor pains on July 11. I personally examined her at noon and again during my night rounds. Everything was normal. She delivered a baby boy early on July 12.” He added that the attending doctor recommended transferring the baby to the ICU, and the family chose a private hospital for further care.

According to Dr. Deb, the infant passed away at 5:09 p.m. on July 13 in the private hospital. However, a social media post made by the father earlier that day claimed the baby had already died and blamed RGM Hospital staff. “This clearly shows that false information is being circulated,” Deb remarked.

The press conference was also attended by staff nurses Ferdousi Begum, Pinki Saha and other health workers, all of whom expressed dismay over the social media backlash. They collectively denounced the allegations as part of a larger campaign to tarnish the hospital’s image.

Highlighting recent progress, Dr. Deb noted, “In the last two years, this hospital has moved from zero to nearly 2,000 successful natural deliveries. Our operation theater is about to open, and we’ve acquired a sonography machine. Some people may find it hard to digest our development—that’s why such attempts are made.”

He further emphasized the broader government efforts in upgrading healthcare quality, stating, “All of us doctors, nurses and staff are dedicated to improving services. We aim to offer modern, humane medical care to every patient.”

The hospital staff claimed “We believe in earning trust through service, not spreading rumors.”
