Agartala, 26th July 2025: In a remarkable feat of medical skill and compassion, doctors at Gomati District Hospital successfully removed a massive 4 kg uterine fibroid from a 30-year-old woman while preserving her uterus, safeguarding her reproductive future.
Monti Saha, a resident of Tepania, had been suffering for months due to the large non-cancerous tumor, which had severely impacted her daily life. When she arrived at the hospital, the medical team was faced with a difficult challenge: removing the fibroid without compromising her ability to have children.
Recognizing the emotional and physical toll of a hysterectomy on a young woman, Medical Superintendent and gynaecologist Dr. Kajal Kumar Das led a team that included Dr. Moutoushi Chowdhury and nursing officers Sumana Baraj and Badal Majumder. Together, they planned and executed a high-risk myomectomy, a surgical procedure to remove fibroids while preserving the uterus.
“The patient is only 30 years old. And we did it,” said Dr. Moutoushi Chowdhury, highlighting the importance of preserving Monti’s reproductive health.
The surgery lasted over two hours posed significant risks including severe bleeding that could have necessitated an emergency hysterectomy. However, the team managed to successfully remove the fibroid with minimal blood loss. Monti was given two units of blood before and after the procedure to ensure her safety.
Dr. Das confirmed that the tumor weighed over 4 kg, calling it one of the most challenging cases they’ve handled. The hospital also ensured that all necessary medical care and materials were provided free of cost, reflecting their commitment to patient welfare.
Monti is currently stable and recovering well, and her case stands as a testament to the hospital’s dedication, skill, and focus on patient-centered care.
