Agartala, 31st July 2025:    BJP MLA Abhishek Debroy of the Matarbari assembly constituency in collaboration with the Tripura Sundari Siddha Peetham Trust has announced the launch of a pilgrimage to Kashi (Varanasi) for senior citizens from his constituency.

Addressing a press briefing this afternoon at the Matarbari Block Conference Hall here, Debroy revealed that the initiative will sponsor 44 individuals’ men and women aged above 60 from Matarbari fully funded from his own salary. The journey will commence from Agartala Railway Station on August 31 and is expected to reach Kashi by September 02. Pilgrims will be taken on guided tours of sacred sites including Baba Vishwanath Temple, Bhairavnath and Sankatmochan among others.

Debroy’s initiative has sparked considerable political discussion, with many observers suggesting that the MLA has outpaced several prominent ministers and legislators within the ruling party in terms of grassroots engagement. Analysts speculate that if Debroy secures another nomination from the BJP in the upcoming Assembly elections and emerge victorious; his prospects for a ministerial berth appear promising due to his growing reputation for foresight and public service.

Notably, Debroy has distanced himself from the digital fanfare often associated with political figures prioritizing direct community service over online popularity. His efforts have reportedly impressed not only the electorate but also members across political divides, marking him as a rising figure in Tripura’s political scenario.
