Agartala, December 28, 2022: The Mid-Day Meal scheme workers on Wednesday morning blocked Khowai-Mohanpur-Agartala road at Belfang area in Khowai district.
Protesting on six-point charter of demands, the mid-day meal scheme workers blocked road. They complained that the wage for a day is not enough to purchase one kilogram of rice. As the government is reluctant to meet the demands, the mid-day meal workers claimed that they were bound to hold road blockade.
However, the road blockade resulted in stranding of vehicle on both sides, while office-goers faced great difficulties in reaching their respective offices. Police attempted to lift the blockaders but failed.
DEO of Khowai district arrived at the spot, listened to their demands and tried to lift the blockade, but failed. The workers are reluctant to believe the assurances of the education officer of the district.
Later, Additional DM of Khowai district reached the spot and talked with the blockaders. He assured that the demands will be raised before the government at the earliest.
Thereafter, the mid-day meal scheme workers lifted their blockade. However, they also said that if the government is in deep slumber and don’t fulfil their demands, then the continuous road blockade program will continue.
