Agartala, 9th August 2025:   Tension gripped the Gandhighat area in Battala here this morning after a youth was caught red-handed attempting to sell a stolen battery, allegedly taken from a parked auto-rickshaw (tomtom). The incident took place in front of the Forest Office.

Locals said that a group of thieves stole the battery from a tomtom stationed near the Gandhighat Forest Office earlier in the day. The vehicle’s owner found the theft shortly afterward and promptly alerted the police.

While waiting near the scene, the tomtom owner spotted a youth attempting to sell a battery. Suspecting it to be the stolen item, he confronted the individual with the help of local residents. The youth was apprehended on the spot and subjected to a public thrashing before being handed over to the police.

The swift action by locals and the dramatic nature of the arrest led to a brief but intense commotion in the area. Police have taken the youth into custody and are investigating his possible links to a larger theft ring.
