Agartala, January 04, 2023: Inaugurating the Farmers’ Knowledge Centre in Majlishpur on Wednesday, ICA minister Sushanta Chowdhury said that the government has taken multifaceted plans for the welfare of farmers in the state as various modern agricultural machinery has been provided to increase the income of the farmers.
Apart from this, Farmers’ Knowledge Centre is also being opened to acquire knowledge in the field of agriculture so that the farmers do not have to face any difficulty in producing the crops of their land, he added.
Chowdhury said, “Now the administration is going to the people. People do not have to go to the administration. So it has targeted to open such knowledge centres in every block of the state. In total, Rs 58 lakh has been spent on the construction of the newly constructed Farmers’ Knowledge Centre funded by the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund.”
He also said that farmers are the food providers of this country so farmers need to be empowered. If the farmers are strong, the economy of the country or state will be strong. The state and central governments have been supporting the farmers through various schemes to make them economically self-reliant.
With the inauguration of this knowledge centre, farmers in the region now need not go far for advice. Now this facility is available at the doorstep, he added.
Talking about floriculture, ICA minister and local MLA of Majlishpur assembly constituency said, the state government is now “prospering” in flower cultivation as well. There is no need to import flowers from outside as before. He cited Lakshmibil village of Bishalgarh as an example. Farmers are becoming self-reliant through agriculture and horticulture.
Jirania Panchayat Samiti Chairperson Manju Das, Vice-Chairman Pritam Debnath, Director of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare department Sharadindu Das, Director of Horticulture and Land Conservation department Phanibhushan Jamatia, philanthropist Gouranga Bhowmik and others were present in the event.
In this programme, Chowdhury gave power tiller to farmer Swapan Debnath and power presser to farmer Ajit Chakraborty.
The ICA minister on Wednesday also inaugurated a sub-agricultural nursery as well as Gramsevak Kendra at Sachindranagar Colony in Jirania sub-division.
