Agartala, 5th September 2025: West Agartala Police successfully recovered 28 lost mobile phones and returned them to their rightful owners during a formal handover ceremony held on Friday. The event marked a moment of relief and gratitude for many residents who had lost their devices months, or even years, ago.
Speaking at the event, District Superintendent of Police Namit Pathak revealed that the recoveries were made following multiple complaints lodged by citizens regarding missing phones. Of the total, at least 12 devices had been blocked through the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal — a government-backed platform designed to trace and disable lost or stolen mobile phones.
Pathak explained that the CEIR portal allows users to instantly block a lost device using its IMEI number, thereby safeguarding sensitive data and preventing unauthorized use. Once blocked, the phones become unusable across all Indian mobile networks, making them easier to trace and recover.
The recovered phones were tracked using this system and later identified through changes in SIM card usage, enabling police to locate and retrieve them.
Recipients of the recovered phones expressed heartfelt gratitude to the district police and administration. Many praised the initiative for restoring public trust and demonstrating the effectiveness of digital tools in police.
