Agartala, 6th September 2025: In a bid to revive and celebrate indigenous heritage, the Department of Tribal Welfare organized a cultural distribution ceremony today at the Dasarath Deb Memorial Hall located in the Supari Bagan area here. The event was held as part of the ongoing observance of Janajati Gaurav Varsh (Tribal Pride Year).
Tribal Welfare minister Bikash Debbarma along with department secretary K. Shashi Kumar and other dignitaries attended the ceremony. A total of 85 cultural groups received traditional musical instruments, ornaments, and ethnic attire from the guests.
Speaking to the media personnel here, Minister Debbarma expressed concern over the erosion of tribal customs and traditions over the past 25 years. “Much of Tripura’s indigenous culture has been lost. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Manik Saha, the government has initiated efforts to restore and preserve these traditions,” he said.
He further criticized previous administrations for neglecting tribal interests, stating that the current government is committed to inclusive development and cultural preservation. “Unity among all communities in Tripura is essential. The government is working to uphold fraternity and build a secure future for tribal populations through targeted initiatives,” Debbarma added.
