Agartala, 8th September 2025 : Authorities have ordered the indefinite closure of Apyayan Mistanna Bhandar, a popular sweet shop in Kalyanpur following multiple complaints of unhygienic conditions and the sale of spoiled sweets.
Despite repeated concerns raised over the years regarding food safety standards in the region, enforcement had remained lax. However, recent media reports highlighting unsanitary conditions and the sale of rotten sweets at Apyayan Mistanna Bhandar prompted swift administrative action.
A team led by Sub-Divisional Magistrate Apurba Krishna Chakraborty today accompanied by Kalyanpur police conducted a surprise inspection of the establishment. Preliminary findings confirmed several of the allegations, including the presence of fungal growth in sweets and poor hygiene practices within the premises.
The crackdown followed a fresh incident earlier in the day, where a customer reportedly fell ill after consuming sweets purchased from the shop. This, coupled with a previous complaint involving mold-infested sweets, intensified public outcry and triggered immediate administrative intervention.
In response, the SDM issued an order to shut down the shop indefinitely. Officials have also warned that any business operating under similar violations across the Teliamura subdivision will face strict and decisive action.
“We will not tolerate any form of negligence when it comes to public health. All food vendors must adhere to safety norms, or face serious consequences,” a senior official stated.
