Agartala, 9th September 2025:   Amid mounting civic distress across the Agartala Municipal Corporation area, the Sadar District Congress Committee today organized a protest march demanding urgent action to address basic urban infrastructure failures.

The rally, which began at the Congress Bhavan, wound through key city roads before culminating outside the AMC headquarters. Protesters raised concerns over persistent shortages in drinking water, erratic electricity supply, disrupted gas lines due to unplanned road digging, and a crumbling drainage system. Congress leaders alleged that these issues have severely impacted daily life, with the situation exacerbated by indiscriminate excavation under the Smart City initiative, leading to a surge in waterborne diseases.

Despite the gravity of the situation, Congress claimed that municipal authorities have failed to take meaningful steps to resolve the crisis. When party workers attempted to submit a deputation to the Mayor, they were stopped by police barricades, prompting them to stage a sit-in demonstration at the corporation gate.

Tripura Pradesh Youth Congress President accused the AMC of prioritizing publicity for large-scale projects while ignoring the daily struggles of residents. “The administration is burying the real problems under glossy campaigns. People are suffering without clean water or proper sanitation,” he said, adding that the Smart City works have made life unbearable for many.

Congress warned that if immediate measures are not taken to restore essential civic services, they will escalate the agitation into a larger movement.
