Agartala, 12th September 2025 :   In continuation of its commitment towards the welfare of veterans and their families the Red Shield Medics organised an Ex-Servicemen (ESM) Health Mela at Agartala Military Station on September 11, 2025.

The Mela focused on spreading awareness about preventive healthcare and lifestyle management. Separate sessions for men and women ensured focused discussions on issues of concern to each group. Topics included cervical cancer awareness, importance of balanced diet, prevention of lifestyle disorders, and ill effects of tobacco, alcohol and drug addiction.

To extend expert care, 08 civilian doctors from IGM Hospital, Agartala participated. The specialists – in Medicine, Surgery, Ophthalmology, ENT, Dermatology, Gynaecology, Dentistry and Dietetics – provided consultations, health check-ups and personalised counselling.

A key highlight of the day was the timely medical response that saved the life of Ex-Havildar Jaharlal, a 64-year-old veteran of the Assam Regiment. He developed chest pain during the camp, later confirmed as a heart attack. Immediate first aid and stabilisation were provided by the Army medical staff before he was evacuated to GB Hospital for further treatment. The incident underlined the importance of first-aid readiness and the Army’s enduring bond with its veterans.

The Health Mela witnessed enthusiastic participation with numerous Ex-Servicemen, their dependents and 62 serving personnel with families also benefitting. The OPDs recorded footfall of  170 across various specialities. Additionally, 10 Pap smears were collected for testing.

The event reaffirmed the Red Shield Medics’ commitment to comprehensive healthcare for the veterans fraternity while strengthening civil-military cooperation in community wellbeing.
