Agartala, 13th October 2025:   Convicted inmate Rahim Ali, one of the six escapees from Dharmanagar Sub-Jail, has been remanded to 14 days of judicial custody following the completion of a three-day police remand. He was produced before the court on Monday, where the magistrate ordered his continued detention until October 16 based on revelations made during police interrogation.

The jailbreak took place in the early hours of October 01 during Durga Puja, when six convicts escaped from the Kalikapur-based Dharmanagar Sub-Jail. The incident triggered swift action from the district administration and police, leading to the arrest of three escapees so far Abdul Patta, Narayan Datta and Rahim Ali. A manhunt is underway to locate the remaining three fugitives.

The escape has raised serious concerns over the jail’s security infrastructure. In response, six jail staff members have been temporarily suspended. However, public outrage continues, with many questioning whether suspension alone is a sufficient penalty for such a grave lapse involving high-risk convicts.

Government counsel Biswajit Das confirmed that along with Rahim Ali, another accused in the same case, Hanu Mia, was also presented in court on Monday. Hanu Mia has been sent to three days of judicial custody. The accused face multiple charges under sections U/S-121(2)/262/118(1)/132/324(4)/109/61/(2)/301(2)/3(5) BNS, including added sections 143(1)(F)/249 BNS.

Das further stated that Rahim Ali, Abdul Patta, and Narayan Dutta will be jointly produced before the court on October 16.
