Mob Lynching in Khowai: Tripura Police Handover Bodies of Deceased Bangladeshi Nationals

Agartala, 16th October 2025:  The Tripura Police on Thursday handed over the bodies of three Bangladeshi nationals who were mob lynched on suspicion of cattle theft in Vidyabill, Khowai district, on Wednesday afternoon.

Police sources said a case was registered at Champahaoar Police Station after the bodies were recovered. “Following investigation and post-mortem, the deceased were identified as Bangladeshi nationals. The bodies were handed over to the Bangladesh Police and Border Guards of Bangladesh through the Paharura border,” officials stated.

According to the police, the three Bangladeshi nationals allegedly attacked Indian villagers with sharp weapons, critically injuring two locals after being caught allegedly stealing cattle. In retaliation, a crowd beat the alleged intruders, resulting in their deaths on the spot.

The handover ceremony was attended by Assistant Commandant of the 104th BSF Battalion Kundan Kumar, Khowai Police Station Officer-in-Charge Krishna Dhan Sarkar, Champahaoar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Dilip Kumar Debbarma, Additional Superintendent of Police, and other officials on the Indian side. On the Bangladesh side, the ceremony was attended by Commandant of the 55th Battalion BGB Company Abul Khair, Chunarughat Police Station Officer-in-Charge Zahidul Islam, and other officers.

The deceased have been identified as Jewel Mia, Pandit Mia, and Sajal Mia. Both Indian and Bangladeshi border security forces have intensified surveillance to maintain peace along the border.
