Agartala, 30th October 2025:   Gambling activities are reportedly on the rise across various parts of Agartala city, with a noticeable shift in the way gambling is being conducted. Unlike earlier days, gamblers no longer gather in one place — instead, mobile-based gambling has become increasingly popular, turning phones into virtual gambling hubs.

Acting on a tip-off, police from the East Agartala Police Station conducted raids on Bankumari and Central Road areas on Thursday and arrested 11 gamblers involved in illegal betting activities.

According to Officer-in-Charge Subrata Debnath, six gamblers were arrested from the Bongkumari area and another six from Central Road. Police also seized gambling materials and Rs 11,580 in cash during the operation.

OC Debnath said that the police are conducting regular raids based on secret information to curb gambling activities wherever they occur. However, he noted that the growing trend of mobile-based gambling poses a new challenge for law enforcement, as it is more difficult to trace and intercept compared to traditional gambling setups.

Police have pledged to continue their efforts to dismantle gambling networks across the capital, but as online and mobile gambling spreads, how effectively the authorities can tackle this evolving challenge remains to be seen.
