Agartala, 1st November 2025: A startling allegation has surfaced against a helper at the Madhuban Anganwadi Centre, accusing her of prolonged absenteeism and negligence of official duties, allegedly shielded by political backing.
Local sources claim that Sumita Acharya, the designated helper at the centre, has been absent from her workplace for an extended period. Despite drawing a regular salary, she reportedly spends her time with influential leaders under the protection of the ruling party, while failing to report for duty.
In her absence, the Anganwadi worker commonly referred to as “Didimoni” has been single-handedly managing the centre’s operations. She not only teaches the children but also occasionally takes on cooking responsibilities, a task typically assigned to the helper.
Some parents have stepped in to assist with meal preparation when time permits, a situation locals describe as highly irregular and administratively unacceptable. Despite repeated complaints from Didimoni to higher authorities, no concrete action has been taken so far.
Parents expressed concern to the media, pointing out that the helper’s name continues to appear in the attendance register daily, even though she remains absent. They fear this negligence is severely impacting the quality of early childhood education at the centre.
“Should Didimoni focus on teaching or take on the helper’s duties?” questioned one parent. The community is now demanding immediate intervention and strict action from the administration. Failing that, they have warned of launching a larger protest to press for accountability.
