Agartala, 2nd November 2025 :  Tension gripped the Charilam area under Bishalgarh police station after a local businessman was allegedly assaulted by a self-proclaimed nationalist leader. The Bishalgarh Traders’ Association has lodged a formal complaint with the police demanding immediate legal action against the accused.

According to reports, Swapan Majumder, a businessman from Charilam Parimal Choumuhani, was brutally attacked with a bamboo stick by Rajesh Das, a dominant local leader from Charilam Gautam Colony. The incident left the businessman seriously injured.

Following the assault, traders from across Charilam gathered on Sunday afternoon, transported the injured businessman to Bishalgarh Police Station, and collectively submitted a written complaint against Rajesh Das.

The Officer-in-Charge of Bishalgarh Police Station, Bijoy Das, has reportedly assured the traders that prompt legal steps will be taken against the accused.

Local business owners have expressed growing frustration, alleging that they have been enduring continuous harassment and intimidation by Rajesh Das. They urged the police administration to act swiftly to ensure justice and restore a sense of safety in the trading community of Charilam.

“We are tired of his threats and high-handedness. We want strict legal action against him as soon as possible,” several traders said while speaking to reporters outside the police station.

Police have confirmed that an investigation into the incident is underway.
