Agartala, 27th   November 2025:  Congress MLA Gopal Chandra Roy launched a scathing attack on the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), alleging that democracy and the Constitution are under threat in the country.

Speaking at a state-level Congress meeting organized to mark Constitution Protection Day, Roy accused the BJP of failing to uphold democratic values and of pushing the state into lawlessness.

Roy claimed that the BJP government has not fulfilled a single promise made ahead of the 2018 elections. “They pledged employment for unemployed youth, but instead, young people are being driven towards addiction,” he said. According to him, drug abuse is spreading across the state, with some youths even becoming involved in trafficking, while the government remains inactive.

The Congress legislator further alleged that internal conflicts and corruption have weakened the BJP from within. “Law and order has collapsed. The ruling party, plagued by infighting, is destroying the democratic environment of the state. To protect the Constitution, this government must fall,” Roy declared.

During his speech, Roy also accused BJP-backed miscreants of attacking a gathering in Dharmanagar that was held to honor the framers and defenders of the Constitution. Other Congress leaders echoed similar concerns, accusing both the central and state BJP governments of pursuing anti-democratic and anti-people policies.

The event, held on Wednesday at the Pradesh Congress Bhavan in Agartala, was attended by Pradesh Congress president Asish Kumar Saha, MLAs Sudip Roy Barman and Gopal Chandra Roy, State Youth Congress president Neel Kamal Saha, Pradesh Mahila Congress chief Sarbani Ghosh, along with other senior party leaders.
