Agartala, 18th December 2025: The Municipal Corporation, in collaboration with the Water Board, is moving ahead with multiple initiatives to ensure purified and safe drinking water for residents. As part of this effort, several water treatment plants have already been commissioned across different parts of the city.
However, residents of Ward No. 20 and Ward No. 32, particularly in the Masterpara locality covering Ramnagar areas from No. 4 to 10–11 continue to face shortages of treated drinking water. To resolve this issue, plans have been finalized to set up a 5.5 ML capacity water treatment plant on 16 gandas of government land in Masterpara.
The state government has sanctioned Rs 22 crore for the project. According to administrative sources, the foundation stone will be laid by the Chief Minister on December 30.
On Thursday, Mayor Dipak Majumdar, along with the CEO of the Water Board, the councillor of Ward No. 20, and other officials, inspected the proposed site to review preparations and land selection. While reports surfaced of some local resistance, the Mayor dismissed such claims, stating that discussions with residents had already taken place and no obstacles remain.
Mayor Majumdar expressed confidence that once completed, the project will provide permanent access to purified drinking water for residents of Ramnagar and adjoining areas.
