Agartala, 23rd December 2025: The Department of Hindi, Government Degree College (GDC) Khumulwng, has successfully inaugurated a seven-day workshop-cum-training program on “Entrepreneurship and Skill Development for Women” at the college’s conference hall in Tripura West.
The initiative aims to raise awareness among students about entrepreneurship, self-employment opportunities, skill development schemes, and the role of government programs in fostering sustainable livelihoods.
The program was formally opened under the chairmanship of Dr. Bhupendra Debbarma, Principal-in-Charge of GDC Khumulwng, who delivered the presidential address. In his speech, Dr. Debbarma underscored the importance of entrepreneurship and skill development in today’s socio-economic context. He emphasized that such initiatives empower students to become self-reliant, innovative, and job creators rather than job seekers. He also commended the organizing committee for launching a timely and need-based program.
The chief guest, Anwar Hussen, Finance Expert at the Directorate of Skill Development, Government of Tripura, delivered the keynote address. He elaborated on various government schemes supporting skill development, entrepreneurship, and financial assistance for aspiring entrepreneurs. Hussen urged students to make effective use of these opportunities and highlighted the importance of financial literacy, planning, and discipline in entrepreneurial ventures.
Pradip Debbarma, Assistant Professor and Head (In-Charge), Department of History, spoke on the pivotal role of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in promoting entrepreneurship and skill development, particularly in rural and tribal communities. He explained how SHGs contribute to women’s empowerment, community development, and income generation through collective skill-based activities.
Raman Chakma, representative from the Directorate of Skill Education, shared insights on vocational training programs, career prospects, and opportunities available to students after acquiring skill-based education.
The program was efficiently coordinated by Maharani Hrangkhawl, Assistant Professor and Head (In-Charge), Department of Hindi. The inaugural session concluded with a vote of thanks by Sri Daniel Debbarma, Assistant Professor and Head (In-Charge), Department of Education, who expressed gratitude to the chief guest, dignitaries, faculty members, resource persons, participants, and the organizing committee for their valuable contributions and active participation.
