Agartala, 1st January 2026 :   A remarkable act of faith and compassion has come to light in Sabroom, where a tractor owner-driver, Amal Nath of Chalitachhari village, chose humanity over exploitation after discovering a rare turtle in his farmland.

While ploughing his field, Nath spotted the unusual species. Instead of harming or consuming it, he made a spontaneous decision to protect the creature. Guided by his religious beliefs, Nath first offered prayers at the historic Daityeswari Kali Temple in Sabroom. He then released the turtle into the temple’s pond with reverence and devotion.

His gesture has drawn widespread praise from local residents, who see it as a shining example of responsibility towards life and nature. According to community members, turtles hold sacred significance in Hindu tradition. Pilgrims at Udaipur’s famed Matabari temple still flock to witness large turtles in its pond. Many believe that if the released turtle grows in size, Sabroom’s temple could one day attract similar crowds of devotees.
