Agartala, 1st January 2026 : The brutal murder of Angel Chakma, an MBA student from Tripura, in Dehradun has triggered widespread outrage across the country. Amid growing public anger, former Uttarakhand Member of Parliament Tarun Vijay arrived in Tripura today and is scheduled to meet the bereaved family tomorrow.
Angel Chakma, who was pursuing her MBA in Dehradun, was allegedly murdered in a heinous manner. As news of her death spread, strong reactions were witnessed across the Northeast and other parts of India. Acting swiftly, the police have arrested four out of the five accused in connection with the case. According to the police, the prime accused has fled to Nepal.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has assured that the strictest punishment will be ensured for those responsible for the crime. The Tripura government has also stood firmly by the victim’s family. Both the Tripura and Uttarakhand governments have extended financial assistance to the family. Meanwhile, the Uttarakhand Police have constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to expedite the arrest of the main accused.
Former Uttarakhand MP Tarun Vijay’s visit to Tripura is being seen as a message of solidarity and sensitivity from the Uttarakhand government towards the victim’s family. Soon after arriving in the state today, he met Tripura Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu. Later in the evening, he is scheduled to meet Tripura Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha. On Wednesday, Tarun Vijay will visit the residence of Angel Chakma to personally meet her family members and express his condolences.
