Agartala, 2nd January 2026: After serving patients for more than 22 years, members of the Patient Care Workers’ Association have been left in crisis following the sudden suspension of their work over the past two months. In protest, the workers staged a sit-in demonstration at Tripura Medical College and Dr BR Ambedkar Teaching Hospital, Hapania here yesterday, continuing their agitation today.
According to the demonstrators, around 150 patient care workers have played a vital role in assisting hospital patients for years. They allege that their services were abruptly terminated without prior notice, pushing many families into severe financial uncertainty.
Carrying placards, the retrenched workers appealed to Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha to intervene and resolve the matter urgently. Their demands include immediate reinstatement of their jobs, permanent employment arrangements, and a long-term solution through dialogue with the administration.
As the protest entered its second day, hospital authorities tightened security measures on the premises to maintain order.
