Agartala, 16th January 2026: The CPI(M) Nalchar local committee this morning visited 150 households in Koliram ADC Village under Sonamura subdivision, engaging directly with residents and collecting annual party contributions.
Koliram ADC Village, home to 526 families, all belonging to tribal communities has long struggled with poverty and neglect. Nearly 80 percent of households depend on daily wage labor, with many families still living in dilapidated homes where rainwater seeps through broken roofs. Villagers allege that since the 2018 Assembly elections, no political party has visited to check on their condition, except occasional visits by Left leaders.
Led by former MLA and Sonamura CPI(M) subdivision committee member Tapan Das, the party divided into several teams to meet families, listen to their grievances, and raise funds for Left-led movements. Residents welcomed the leaders warmly, offering hospitality in their courtyards and openly sharing their hardships.
During the visit, Das noted that many villagers expressed regret over being “misled” during the 2018 elections, saying they are now paying the price for that mistake. “We gained valuable political experience from this visit,” Das told reporters, emphasizing the importance of reconnecting with grassroots communities.
The CPI(M) delegation observed women engaged in traditional weaving of pachra garments on verandas, highlighting the resilience of the community despite economic challenges.
Alongside Das, the team included Nalchar local committee secretary Pranab Debnath, members Suman Dey, Mihir Bhowmik, Sajal Das, Sukhen Debbarma, Marai Kumar Jamatia, Sanjib Debbarma, and several others.
