Agartala, 27th January 2026: The two-day school-level Science Fair 2025–26, inaugurated yesterday at PM-Shree Matangini Hazra Vidyalaya with promises of fostering scientific temperament and creativity among students, quickly turned into a showcase of mismanagement and neglect.
Despite lofty claims, the event exposed the school authority’s long-standing failures and lack of accountability. Guests were present at the inauguration, but the program was marred by poor planning, disorder, and inadequate facilities. Symbolic messages of environmental awareness were rendered meaningless against the backdrop of the school’s deteriorating infrastructure and chaotic arrangements.
In a striking moment, Headmaster-in-Charge Amar Debbarma admitted on stage to the acute classroom shortage and other persistent problems. Parents and observers criticized the administration for ignoring these issues for years and failing to take corrective measures even ahead of such a major educational event.
Students had prepared 53 science-based models and projects, but many were left without proper display opportunities due to space constraints, disorganized management, and lack of supervision. Parents alleged that the negligence left children disheartened and demotivated.
The inauguration of a newly constructed laboratory building was highlighted with much fanfare, yet authorities failed to provide any clear roadmap to address the chronic classroom crisis, inadequate infrastructure, and poor learning environment. The effort appeared limited to ceremonial plaque unveiling and ribbon-cutting.
Overall, instead of strengthening educational standards, the science fair revealed the administration’s indifference, shortsightedness, and severe mismanagement. Allegations of the event being a mere showpiece rather than a genuine educational initiative are now resonating strongly within the school community.
