Agartala, 27th January 2026:   Kailashahar witnessed vibrant celebrations on the occasion of India’s 77th Republic Day, with a district-level programme held at the Ramkrishna Mahavidyalaya ground on Monday. The event was inaugurated with the ceremonial hoisting of the national flag by State Minister for Social Welfare and Social Education, Tinku Roy.

The programme was attended by Unakoti District Superintendent of Police Sudhambika R, District Magistrate Dr. Tamal Majumdar (IAS), Zilla Parishad Chairman Amolendu Das, local MLA Birjit Sinha, along with senior administrative officials. Students from various educational institutions and members of cultural organisations presented patriotic dances and yoga demonstrations, earning wide appreciation from the audience.

Following the ceremony, Minister Roy visited the Unakoti District Jail to distribute fruits and sweets among inmates. He later extended the gesture to patients at the Unakoti District Hospital, marking the Republic Day with compassion and goodwill.

Around noon, a mega blood donation camp was organised at Hall No. 2 of the Unakoti Kala Kshetra under the initiative of the district administration, with support from Kailashahar Blood Donors Association and Sai Computers. Minister Roy formally inaugurated the camp by lighting a ceremonial lamp.

The event was graced by District Magistrate Dr. Tamal Majumdar, District Education Officer Prashanta Kilikdar, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Bipul Das, Municipal Council Chairperson Chapala Debroy, and Kailashahar Blood Donors Association President Anupam Pal, among other dignitaries. Association Secretary Subhashis Choudhury delivered the welcome address, while Minister Roy was honoured with a commemorative memento by the organisers.

In his speech, Minister Roy highlighted the need to encourage greater participation in blood donation among minority communities, noting that a significant portion of Kailashahar’s population belongs to these groups. He stressed that collective efforts could help overcome the shortage of blood at Unakoti District Hospital. The minister also urged the public to work towards eliminating child marriage and reducing teenage pregnancies, warning of the health risks associated with underage motherhood.

A total of 32 voluntary donors came forward at the camp, including personnel from the 28th Battalion of Assam Rifles and local residents, whose spontaneous participation was particularly noteworthy.

Beyond the central programme, the 77th Republic Day was observed with due respect and enthusiasm across the subdivision. Political party offices, the Kailashahar Press Club, and various government and private institutions marked the day with flag hoisting and patriotic fervour.
