Agartala, 5th  February 2026 :  A women’s group known as the Pramila Bahini has taken matters into their own hands, launching a direct campaign against the rampant illegal trade of liquor and narcotics in Mahishasurmardini village.

The incident took place at the residence of Bachu Sutradhar in the RF Tilla area, where the group conducted a surprise raid. During the search, a large quantity of cannabis and foreign liquor was recovered. Shockingly, bottles of liquor were found hidden beneath a deity’s idol, an act that has sparked outrage and heated debate across the locality.

Upon receiving information, Sub-Divisional Police Officer Debanjali Roy, accompanied by a large contingent from Radhakishorepur police station, rushed to the spot. The seized contraband has been confiscated, and police have initiated a formal investigation.

Local sources allege that Bachu Sutradhar has long been involved in the liquor trade. Despite being detained multiple times, residents claim police action was often superficial, allowing him to resume illegal activities soon after. This, they argue, has contributed to the growing addiction problem among the village’s youth.

The development has raised pressing questions about law enforcement’s effectiveness. While the Pramila Bahini’s bold intervention has sent a strong message, concerns remain over whether such grassroots efforts can bring lasting change. Observers note that unless police and community groups work together with sustained determination, the campaign risks fading away like previous short-lived operations.

For now, all eyes are on whether the administration and the Pramila Bahini can forge a united front to rid the society of addiction and restore faith in public accountability.
