Agartala, 20th February 2026:   Panic gripped Jamaraipara village in the Kanchanpur subdivision after a devastating fire broke out in the dead of night, reducing a family’s home and belongings to ashes. The incident occurred shortly after midnight on Thursday, leaving homeowner Kalpajoy Reang and his wife narrowly escaping with their lives.

According to local sources, Reang awoke to the smell of smoke and discovered flames engulfing part of the house. Realizing the danger, he quickly roused his wife, and the couple managed to flee outside. However, the fire spread so rapidly that they could save nothing but the clothes they were wearing.

The blaze destroyed stored paddy, essential food supplies, important documents, furniture, and all household property. Villagers attempted to douse the flames but failed. Later, a fire engine from the Kanchanpur Fire Department arrived and brought the fire under control after prolonged efforts. By then, the family had lost everything.

The cause of the fire remains unclear. Authorities are investigating possible reasons, including a short circuit or kitchen fire. Local administration officials have visited the site and assured the affected family of necessary assistance.

Meanwhile, the sudden disaster has left the family in deep distress, facing uncertainty without shelter or basic necessities. Residents have urged the administration to provide immediate financial aid and rehabilitation support to help the family rebuild their lives.
