Agartala, 9th March 2026:    Bru IDPs staged a road blockade on the Gandacherra–Amarpur road on Monday morning in front of a Bru resettlement camp, protesting the severe shortage of drinking water in the area.

The blockade, which began early in the morning, led to long traffic congestion on both sides of the road. Several vehicles were stranded midway, causing significant inconvenience to passengers and drivers.

According to the protesters, the resettlement camp has been facing an acute drinking water crisis for a long time. They alleged that despite repeatedly informing the authorities about the issue, no permanent solution has been provided so far. As a result, they said they were forced to resort to blocking the road to draw the administration’s attention.

Due to the protest, traffic movement on the important Gandacherra–Amarpur road came to a complete standstill. However, at the time of filing this report, no administrative officials had reached the spot, which further heightened tensions in the area.
