Agartala, 28th March 2026:   The state government today ordered the temporary closure of Jyotsna Filling Station in the Ganaraj Chowmuhani area after the pump was caught illegally dispensing petrol into plastic drums. Following a joint inspection by the Food and Civil Supplies Department and the Legal Metrology Department, the fuel station was served a show-cause notice and told to halt all operations immediately.

The crackdown was triggered by a specific complaint alleging that the petrol pump was selling fuel in loose plastic containers, which is a major safety hazard. A high-level team consisting of officials from the Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL) and local government departments visited the site to verify the claims.

During the inspection, authorities confirmed the violation of safety protocols. An official leading the inquiry stated that the petrol pump owner has been asked to explain why their license should not be permanently canceled. “We have ordered the pump to remain closed for the time being. It will not be allowed to reopen until the investigation is fully resolved and higher authorities grant permission,” the official added.

Selling petroleum products in plastic drums or loose containers is strictly prohibited under safety regulations. Such practices increase the risk of accidental fires and are often linked to the black marketing of fuel. The government has signaled that it will continue to monitor filling stations across the region to ensure strict compliance with the law.
