Residents protest neglect of Ila Bhattacharya memorial hall

Date:

Agartala, 13th April 2026:    Residents of Badharghat in Agartala are voicing growing frustration over the deteriorating condition of the Ila Bhattacharya Smriti Milanayatan, a community hall built in 2012 during the Left Front government. The facility, which was expanded nearly two years ago, has become virtually unusable due to structural flaws.

Locals allege that while a new building was added at the rear, poor integration between the two sections has left the hall vulnerable to water seepage. Even light rainfall reportedly causes water to flood inside, damaging expensive furniture and rendering the venue unsuitable for public use.

Ward councillor Prasenjit Lodh has repeatedly raised the issue with the Public Works Department, but residents claim no effective action has been taken so far. The lack of response has fueled anger in the neighborhood, with many demanding urgent repairs.

Community members insist that authorities must act quickly to stop water intrusion and restore the hall’s usability, stressing its importance as a shared space for local events and gatherings.
