Traditional Biu festival begins at Kanchanpur

Date:

Agartala, 14th April 2026:   Kanchanpur has come alive with lights, music, and cultural performances as the Barua community’s traditional Seventh State-Level Biu Festival commenced yesterday evening. The three-day celebration was inaugurated at 7:00 p.m. on the grounds behind Kanchanpur Girls’ Boarding, with a colorful ceremony led by MLA Yadav Lal Nath.

The opening stage was graced by social worker Shailendra Nath, Ajanta Chowdhury, BAC Chairman of Laljuri RD Block, along with other prominent members of the Barua community.

This festival holds special significance, having received official recognition from the Tripura government in 2025. Continuing that legacy, this year’s event is being organized with state support and participation from various line departments.

Visitors are flocking to stalls set up by self-help groups (SHGs), showcasing traditional crafts and cultural heritage. A unique attraction, the Bhav Chakra, has drawn particular curiosity and excitement among attendees.

Over the next three days, the festival grounds will be filled with dance, music, and diverse cultural programs, celebrating tradition, unity, and community spirit. Speakers at the inauguration emphasized that the Biu Festival is more than a celebration—it is a symbol of the Barua community’s heritage and social harmony.

The festival runs from April 13 to 15, with crowds gathering not only from local areas but also from distant regions to witness the vibrant cultural showcase.
