Dhalai BJP Chief blames opposition parties for blocking women’s empowerment bill

Date:

Agartala, 22nd April 2026:  A sharp political exchange unfolded at the BJP Dhalai district office today, where party leaders accused opposition parties of obstructing women’s progress by blocking the Nari Shakti Bandhan Adhiniyam Bill.

At a press conference, Dhalai district BJP president Patiram Tripura alleged that the bill’s failure to pass in Parliament was due solely to the “rigid stance” of opposition parties, specifically naming the Congress, Trinamool Congress, and Samajwadi Party.

Tripura emphasized that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a ‘Developed India’ by 2047 hinges on women’s empowerment. “A strong India cannot be built by excluding women. Yet, due to continuous opposition, this crucial reservation bill could not be passed,” he said.

He further noted that on April 16 and 18, 2026, a constitutional amendment was introduced to secure reserved seats for women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies. Parliamentary rules required two-thirds majority support, but Tripura claimed opposition parties withheld backing, stalling the legislation.

The press meet was attended by district Mahila Morcha president Deepa Deb, general secretary Bina Das Biswas, Hemali Debbarma, and other leaders.

Concluding his remarks, Tripura accused the Congress and other opposition parties of being the “primary obstacle” to women’s development, framing their resistance as a betrayal of India’s future.
