Agartala, 25th April 2026: Fresh tension erupted at the Chabimura Tourism Centre under the State Tourism Department after TIPRA Motha workers locked the main gate today, claiming control over the facility. As a result, tourism services were temporarily suspended. The protesters declared that BJP’s dominance at Chabimura would no longer continue and that the centre would now be under Motha’s control.
Reports indicate that since TIPRA Motha’s victory in the ADC elections on April 17, disputes over control of village committees and public institutions have intensified across the state. Saturday’s incident at Chabimura is seen as part of this ongoing conflict.
It may be recalled that since the formation of the BJP-led government in 2018, allied party workers had been managing the tourism centre, with services provided under the supervision of the Amarpur Sub-Divisional Magistrate. However, following Motha’s return to power in the ADC for the second time, the situation has begun to change.
On Saturday morning, Motha supporters staged a sit-in protest after locking the gate of the centre. Police from Birganj station rushed to the spot, where members of the previous management were also present. With police intervention, the situation was brought under control. Later, Motha workers assured that the keys would be handed over to the SDM, following which they withdrew their protest.
Party workers, however, announced that the centre would remain closed to tourists until April 28.
The incident has raised questions about the future of the Chabimura Tourism Centre and when normal services will resume. Concerns are also mounting over the long-standing administrative disputes surrounding the facility, with uncertainty over when a permanent solution will be reached.
