Agartala, 1st May 2026 : A youth has been arrested on charges of rape under the false promise of marriage. The accused, identified as Ankit Barman from Ward No. 9 under Srinagar Police Station, allegedly maintained a relationship with the victim for nearly ten years.
According to the complaint, the accused repeatedly raped the woman over time by assuring her of marriage. The victim further alleged that he blackmailed her and, when she raised the issue of marriage, he along with his mother physically assaulted her.
Based on the written complaint filed at Srinagar Police Station, police arrested the accused from the Anandnagar area on Friday. A case has been registered against him under relevant sections of the law. He will be produced before the court on Saturday.
Police have also seized the accused’s vehicle bearing registration number TR 01 J 4343.
