Tripura youth’s mysterious death in Maharashtra sparks family allegations

Date:

Agartala, 8th May 2026:  A young man from Sonamura, Tripura, has died under mysterious circumstances in Pune, Maharashtra, raising serious allegations from his family against his wife and in-laws.

The deceased has been identified as Iqbal Hossain, a resident of Ward No. 1, Rabindranagar Panchayat under Sonamura police station. According to family sources, Iqbal died around 9 p.m. last night in Pune. The exact cause of death remains unclear, with relatives alleging foul play.

Iqbal’s father claimed that his daughter-in-law, Surma Akter, lured him to Maharashtra, where he was subjected to prolonged abuse. He further alleged that Surma’s family members, residents of Gorganmura in Udaipur, may also be involved in the incident.

Iqbal and Surma were married about two years ago. Within months of the marriage, he was taken to Maharashtra. The family now suspects that the circumstances leading to his death were part of a larger conspiracy.

Grief has engulfed the family, who are struggling financially and unable to bring back the body. They have appealed to the state’s Chief Minister for government assistance to repatriate the remains and ensure a thorough investigation.

The incident has triggered widespread shock in the locality, with residents awaiting the outcome of police and administrative inquiries.
