Agartala, 9th May 2026 : Tripura Police achieved another major success in its anti-narcotics drive with a joint operation in Taksapara, Melaghar subdivision, leading to the recovery of a huge cache of cannabis.
Acting on a tip-off received by the intelligence wing, police teams from Melaghar Police Station, the Special Task Force (STF), and the Tripura State Rifles (TSR) raided the Moniram area of Taksapara today. During the search of a residence belonging to Basirai Debbarma, officers discovered drums filled with dried cannabis.
Authorities confirmed that the total seized quantity amounted to approximately 148 kilograms, with an estimated market value of around ₹4 lakh. Basirai Debbarma was detained on charges of involvement in the illegal trade.
The recovered contraband and the accused were taken to Melaghar Police Station for further legal proceedings. Police have registered a case under relevant sections and initiated an investigation.
Inspector Subir Saha of Melaghar Police Station stated: “Based on secret information, we conducted a special raid in Taksapara and recovered nearly 148 kg of cannabis. Such operations will continue as part of our mission to build a drug-free Tripura.”
The successful raid has brought relief to local residents, reinforcing confidence in the police’s ongoing crackdown against narcotics.
