LoP expresses faith in Minister after attack on CPI(M) leader’s house

Date:

Agartala, 9th May 2026:  Leader of Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury today visited the residence of CPI(M) leader Tapan Das, whose house was allegedly attacked recently in Tripura’s Jirania Sub-division.

Speaking to reporters after the visit, Chaudhury said that although he did not want to comment on the “agenda” behind the incident, he welcomed the reaction of the local MLA and minister following the attack. “We have heard the reaction of the MLA and minister. He expressed disappointment and also apologized on behalf of those who carried out the attack,” Chaudhury said.

The Opposition leader further stated that the minister’s prompt visit to the scene and assurance that such incidents would not recur should now be translated into action.  “I believe the way the minister arrived at the scene and assured that such incidents will not take place in the coming days, this should now be implemented. I do not know whether he can take responsibility for the entire state, but at least in Jirania Sub-division such incidents should not happen,” he said.

Chaudhury added that strong measures could prevent such violence in the future and expressed confidence in the minister’s role. “I believe if he takes strong steps, it is possible. We have full faith in him,” he added.Referring to the political situation over the past several years, Chaudhury said, “Whatever has happened in the last eight years is gone, but such incidents should not be repeated. We believe he will take necessary steps and we have faith in him.”
