Residents Stage Protest Over Acute Drinking Water Shortage in Udaipur

Date:

Agartala, 11th  May 2026: Tension gripped the Bondhuar–Chhatraifang locality under the Udaipur subdivision of Gomati district on Monday after local women activists launched a road blockade demanding immediate restoration of regular drinking water supply in the area.

Carrying empty containers and raising slogans, members of the local Pramila Bahini blocked a key road in the morning, disrupting traffic and drawing the attention of the administration. Protesters alleged that residents have been struggling with an acute shortage of potable water for several weeks, forcing many families to depend on distant sources for daily needs.

Locals claimed that repeated appeals to the authorities had failed to bring any lasting relief. With temperatures rising sharply in recent days, the crisis has reportedly become more severe, sparking anger among the villagers.

On receiving information, DWS Sub-Divisional Officer Shantanu Kumar Das rushed to the protest site and interacted with the agitators. He assured the residents that the department would take urgent measures to improve the water supply system in the locality.

Following the assurance from the official, the demonstrators withdrew the blockade, restoring normal traffic movement in the area.
