100 teachers trained under early childhood education initiative

Date:

Agartala, 16th May 2026 :  A five-day teacher training workshop organized under the initiative of the Right to Basic Education concluded today in West Tripura district, with the presence of the Secretary of the Education Department, Dr. Milind Dharamrao Ramteke, as the chief guest.

The training program, which began on May 12, 2026, was conducted for 100 teachers from 94 newly established pre-primary schools for the academic year 2026–27. The main objective of the workshop was to provide hands-on training to teachers on play-based learning methodologies and child-centered teaching approaches.

Speaking on the occasion, Secretary Dr. Ramteke emphasized that a child’s brain development is nearly complete by the age of six. He highlighted that the period between ages three and six is crucial for overall care and foundational learning, which shapes a child’s future life. He noted that for this reason, pre-primary education has been made compulsory under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

He further urged teachers to first build trust and emotional connection with children, stating that only then can students effectively absorb knowledge and develop good habits. He added that the success of a “developed India” depends on proper education at the foundational level, and teachers play a central role in shaping the nation’s future. He also remarked that policy initiatives by the education department would not yield results without committed and responsible teachers.

The closing ceremony featured an exhibition of teaching-learning materials prepared by participating teachers during the training. Handmade puppets and other innovative teaching aids attracted significant attention from guests and participants, showcasing creative approaches to classroom learning.

Among other dignitaries present were the Joint Director of the Right to Basic Education, Harshita Biswas, and OSD of the same department, Abhijit Samajpati.

Joint Director Harshita Biswas encouraged teachers to apply the knowledge gained during the five-day training in their respective schools to ensure quality early childhood education. She also announced that similar training programs will be conducted in phases across all districts in the future.

OSD Abhijit Samajpati informed that pre-primary sections have been introduced in 450 schools across the state this year, ensuring access to early education for children from all socio-economic backgrounds. He also noted a 24% increase in pre-primary enrolment compared to the previous year.

The training program was facilitated by six master trainers and six mentor trainers, all of whom have prior experience in early childhood education training. During the closing session, both trainers and participating teachers shared their experiences, and certificates were distributed to all participants by the dignitaries.
