Agartala: May 16. Nearly 200 workers of the Bharatiya Janata Mazdoor Sangh staged a protest in front of the Tripura Forest Development and Plantation Corporation (TFDPC) office on Saturday, opposing the management’s decision to lay off employees.
Later, a delegation of the workers submitted a memorandum to the Managing Director, outlining four key demands.
According to union leaders, a recent notice issued across several centers directed the removal of a number of workers, many of whom have been serving the corporation for 10 to 20 years. They alleged that the sudden decision to terminate employees without valid reasons is unjust and unacceptable.
The memorandum demanded that if layoffs are unavoidable, affected workers must be compensated with financial assistance based on their monthly salary and years of service. The workers also reiterated their long-standing demand for the introduction of a “Rainy Day Allowance.”
Additionally, the union insisted that in future recruitments, 70 percent of new appointments should be made from among skilled workers already associated with the corporation. They further urged the management to remove redundant and over-aged employees from offices and centers, thereby creating employment opportunities for educated youth.
