Agartala, 16th May 2026: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) Sadar Divisional Committee today organized a protest rally in Agartala city condemning the recent hike in the prices of petrol, diesel, cooking gas, and other essential commodities. The rally began from the office of the CPI(M) West Tripura District Committee and witnessed participation from party leaders and supporters.
Speaking to the media during the demonstration, Amal Chakraborty alleged that the Central Government had issued a notification late Thursday night increasing the prices of petrol, diesel, and LPG immediately after the conclusion of elections in five states.
He claimed that before the elections, the ruling government had assured citizens that it would take necessary steps to control rising prices and support the common people. However, according to him, the government failed to uphold those promises once the elections were over.
Condemning the move, the CPI(M) leader said the protest rally was organized to demand the immediate rollback of the increased prices of petrol, diesel, and cooking gas. He further asserted that the fight against inflation and the struggle against the Bharatiya Janata Party are closely connected.
Amal Chakraborty also expressed concern over the continuous rise in the prices of daily essentials such as rice and pulses, stating that the soaring cost of living has placed immense pressure on ordinary citizens across the country.
