Agartala, 24th May 2026: The Pradesh Congress on Sunday announced a statewide movement targeting the BJP-led government over its performance during the last 12 years at the Centre. The announcement was made by State Congress spokesperson Prabir Chakraborty during a press conference held at the Pradesh Congress Bhavan in Agartala.
Addressing the media, Chakraborty alleged that the BJP government had failed to fulfill the promises made to the people when it came to power. He claimed that assurances related to employment generation, recovery of black money, and reduction in the prices of essential commodities remained unfulfilled even after more than a decade in office.
Criticizing the Centre’s economic policies, the Congress leader said demonetization, introduced in the name of recovering black money, caused a massive economic setback to the country. He further alleged that industries and factories across the country have witnessed a steady decline while unemployment has continued to rise.
Chakraborty also targeted the Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime, claiming that loopholes in the system enabled large-scale financial fraud. He alleged that inflation has severely affected common people and accused major companies of reducing the quantity of packaged products while keeping prices unchanged.
Raising concerns over the rising prices of petrol, diesel, and other essential commodities, the Congress leader questioned the achievements of the BJP government during its 12-year tenure.
As part of its campaign, the Congress party will launch the first phase of a statewide agitation from May 25 to May 31. According to Chakraborty, the party will organize public meetings, market campaigns, and street-corner gatherings across Tripura to interact with people and highlight issues concerning inflation, unemployment, and governance.
Several senior Congress leaders and party functionaries were also present during the press conference.
