TGTA-HBR remembers rebel poet Kazi Nazrul Islam

Agartala, 27th May 2026:  The Tripura Government Teachers’ Association (HB Road) marked the 127th birth anniversary of rebel poet Kazi Nazrul Islam with solemnity and reverence at its central office, Shikshak Bhavan. The commemoration began with floral tributes to the poet’s portrait, followed by renditions of Nazrulgeeti by members of the association’s cultural wing.

In his welcome address, General Secretary Ashish Choudhury highlighted the enduring relevance of Nazrul’s writings on equality and humanity. He stressed that the poet’s call for harmony beyond caste and religion must be brought closer to the people, noting that Nazrul placed humanity above all divisions.

The keynote speaker, poet and former Deputy Secretary of the Tripura Board of Secondary Education, Subhashis Choudhury, emphasized that Nazrul’s legacy remains indivisible. He urged society to counter divisive forces with Nazrul’s message of secularism and equality, describing his contribution to Bengali literature and culture as unforgettable. His powerful recitation of the iconic poem Bidrohi deeply moved the audience.

The cultural segment featured performances by veteran cultural activist Badal Chakraborty and promising young artist Tridip Debnath. Former leaders Shaibal Roy and Sulal Majumdar joined the tribute, while Sunil Debnath presided over the event. The program concluded in a dignified atmosphere, with collective homage to the rebel poet’s timeless vision.
