Agartala, 30th May 2026: The Government Railway Police (GRP) at Udaipur Railway Station detained two youths on allegations of attempting to smuggle cannabis by train. According to police sources, both detainees are residents of the Sonamura subdivision in Tripura.
Police said the accused had allegedly boarded the Kanchanjunga Express from Sabroom and were traveling towards Dharmanagar with a large quantity of cannabis. Acting on a tip-off, GRP personnel intensified surveillance at Udaipur Railway Station and monitored the train’s arrival.
When the train reached Udaipur station, police conducted a search operation and detained the two suspects. During the search, officers reportedly recovered a substantial quantity of cannabis packed in two bags. The exact amount seized has not yet been officially disclosed.
The detainees are currently being questioned as part of the investigation. Police are also examining whether other individuals were involved in the smuggling attempt and are trying to identify those behind the alleged trafficking network.
A case is expected to be registered against the accused under the relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further legal proceedings are underway.
Police officials said the investigation is ongoing and more details are likely to emerge following interrogation of the suspects.
