Tripura man Repatriated Through Khowai Border After Completing Jail Term in Bangladesh

Agartala, 1ST June 2026:  Indian national Pradip Chandra Pal, a resident of Amtali in Tripura, was repatriated to India today after completing a prison sentence in Bangladesh for illegal entry into the country.

The handover took place at around 11:30 a.m. through the Paharmura BSF Gate along the Khowai border in the presence of officials from the Border Security Force (BSF), Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), and police authorities from both countries.

According to official sources, Pal had been detained in Bangladesh approximately one year and four months ago on charges of entering the country without valid travel documents. Following his arrest, he was lodged in Habiganj District Jail, where he served his sentence.

After completing the legal formalities, Pal was formally handed over to Indian authorities. The repatriation process was conducted under the supervision of Khowai Police Station Officer-in-Charge Krishna Dhan Sarkar and other senior officials from both sides of the border.

Representing India during the handover were OC Krishna Dhan Sarkar of Khowai Police Station, BSF 104 Battalion Company Commander Ashok Kumar, BSF official Stanely, and the Officer-in-Charge of Subaltila Outpost under Sidhai Police Station. On the Bangladesh side, the officials present included Md. Daud Hossain, In-Charge of Balla BGB Camp No. 55, Md. Shamsuzzaman, an official from Habiganj District Jail, and the Officer-in-Charge of Chunarughat Police Station.

Authorities described the repatriation as a smooth and cordial process, reflecting continued cooperation between India and Bangladesh on border management and humanitarian matters.

Family members and local residents welcomed Pal’s return, expressing gratitude to the authorities of both countries for facilitating the legal and humanitarian transfer after the completion of his sentence.
